FAQ
What is club volleyball?
Athletes of similar ages have an opportunity to develop their volleyball skills and compete for local, Provincial, and National Championships. Our coaching staff is trained and certified, to help athletes develop their volleyball skills. Athletes try out for various club teams around the province, once teams are selected they practice together, work hard and have fun at the same time. Club teams then register for and attend volleyball tournaments and Volleyball Alberta Premier and Provincial Championship events. The season starts once school volleyball is over and runs from December through May.
Where is Drumheller Club Volleyball located?
As our name suggests, we are based out of Drumheller, Alberta, with tryouts and practices taking place primarily at the Badlands Community Facility, located at 80 Veterans Way.
How long is the season?
The club volleyball season starts with tryouts in late November/early December, and runs through May. The end date also depends on the specific age group.
What age groups do you serve?
We try to accommodate as many athletes as we have coaches and gym space for. Ideally, we try our best to have teams in male and female categories from U13 to U18.
When and where are tryouts?
Our tryouts will start on Sunday, November 26th, and last for a few days. Please check Drumheller Club Volleyball's Facebook page for exact dates, times, and locations for each age group. https://www.facebook.com/drumhellerclubvb
How much do tryouts cost?
$25/player. This will include 1-2 tryouts beginning Sunday, November 26th. All participants must be registered as a "Recreational Player" with Volleyball Alberta and bring proof to the tryouts. Players will not be allowed on the court if this is not provided, as it covers players' insurance. If you or your child must miss a tryout, please let the coach or our president know as soon as possible (often something can be worked out).
What does my child need to bring to tryouts?
You will need to bring your volleyball gear (indoor running shoes, shorts, t-shirt, knee pads, ankle brace(s), athletic tape, etc), and a water bottle.
If I make the team, or my child makes the team, how much would I have to pay in fees?
Please refer to the lower section of our "Club Information" tab for more information on fees. https://www.drumhellerclubvolleyball.com/club-information
I may have problems paying the fees in one lump sum. Can I make different payment arrangements?
Drumheller Club Volleyball's fees are very competitive and are considerably less than many of the other club teams. Payment plans may be able to be worked out directly with our President, Koren McDougald.
Several organizations can offer financial assistance to families struggling to cover fees and costs associated with participation in youth sports including the following:

Please let us know if you need further information.
When are practices?
Each team will have different practice days and times. This will depend on coach availability and practice venue availability. Most teams practice 2 times a week. Specific practice days and times will not be determined until after tryouts are completed.
When are the tournaments?
Club volleyball tournaments take place on weekends, and are scheduled by Volleyball Alberta or by other clubs. There is generally one tournament per month, plus a possibility of more, starting at the end of January 2023.
My son or daughter participates in other school or club teams, in other sports. Can he or she still play for DCV SMASH?
We believe in athletes being involved in multiple sports and we also hold to the ideals of the Canadian Sport for Life Long-Term Athlete Development Model. However, it is important for athletes to carefully balance their activities and always be mindful of the commitment they make to their coach and teammates.
Are DCV's coaches certified?
All of our head coaches are either certified or in the process of certification through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and abide by the Volleyball Alberta Coaches' Code of Conduct.
